Financial aid
The graph above illustrates how many Daily Bruin staffers qualify for different need-based aid packages and grants. The most common programs include federal loans, Cal Grants and university need-based aid, with a notable share also receiving middle class scholarships. Applicants’ financial status is not asked for or considered when the Daily Bruin hires interns.
The Daily Bruin aims to support students who want to invest more time into the paper through scholarship funds, such as through the Daily Bruin Alumni Network scholarships. Additionally, the 69 editor and beat assistant positions receive a biweekly stipend, and contributors have an opportunity to be paid for individual articles or projects by contributing a certain amount to their respective sections.
UCLA does not report the proportion of students who receive all of these different types of financial aid.
