Changing of the guard

Wednesday, June 5, 1996

While Bob Dole and Bill Clinton campaign for the November
presidential elections, student activist communities have already
chosen leaders to work for their respective causes.

According to undergraduate President York Chang, the
responsibilities of student group leaders vary among positions.

"They are elected to represent the organization and the needs of
their constituents and to provide strong leadership for their
communities on campus," Chang said. "They also develop relations
with other organizations and make sure the internal workings of the
(group) run smoothly."

Alyssa Kang, a sixth-year Asian American studies student, will
act as next year’s director of the Asian Pacific Coalition, an
umbrella organization that contains more than 20 Asian and Pacific
Islander student groups. The Armenian Students Association, devoted
to educating their members as well as the UCLA community about
Armenian heritage, will be led by Ramela Grigorian, a third-year
pre-psychology student.

The Gay and Lesbian Association will be lead by two co-chairs,
who will share the responsibilities of heading the organization
second-year student Claudia Rodriguez, and Darnell Grisby, a
first-year urban studies and anthropology student.
