About the Daily Bruin

Since 1919, The Daily Bruin has served as UCLA’s main campus newspaper. The paper currently publishes its print issues three times per week during the academic year but generally produces digital content daily year-round.

The Daily Bruin is a resource to UCLA students, faculty and staff and the broader UCLA and Westwood communities. The paper offers local insight and coverage of events, trends and important topics on campus and in Westwood every day it publishes.

In Kerckhoff 118, the Daily Bruin’s central-campus office, about 500 students work across 18 editorial sections to produce the paper each day. Students serve as the paper’s editors, reporters, multimedia journalists, designers and programmers. The Daily Bruin Editorial Board – composed of Daily Bruin staffers from sections throughout the paper – offers perspectives on matters concerning students.

About 3,500 copies of each print issue are distributed at dozens of locations across UCLA. The paper’s online materials and social media reach digital readers worldwide.

In addition to daily news, the Daily Bruin runs PRIME, a quarterly culture and lifestyle magazine, and The Stack, a data journalism blog providing a quantitative look at the news.

Because UCLA does not have a journalism major or school, the Daily Bruin serves as an important training ground for journalists. Daily Bruin alumni have worked at many top news organizations, including the New York Times, National Public Radio, the BBC and the Washington Post. Bruin alumni have gone on to receive several Pulitzer Prizes and a Nobel Peace Prize.

The Bruin also regularly performs strongly in national and local college media competitions and has taken home top honors from the Associated Collegiate Press, the Society of Professional Journalists, the College Media Association, the California News Publishers Association and the California College Media Association.
