USAC fat cats It is sad to see the Students First!-dictated
Undergraduate Student Association Council (USAC) propose to give
themselves a pay raise ("Proposed USAC pay raise controversial"
August 4-10). It continues a long line of broken promises. Last
year, Students First! opposed a proposed fee hike by the UC
Regents, then increased the mandatory student fees without a
student referendum. USAC deals with well over a million dollars a
year (last school year it was over $1.2 million). The funds they
use for themselves and their "offices," are already enough to send
many students to UCLA, provide more tutoring or fund other programs
designed to help the students that Students First! claims to fight
for. They should either put that money to good use or reduce
student fees – giving themselves a pay hike is just not
appropriate! Daniel B. Rego Second-year Political science
