Horey’s ‘humor’ libelous, childish
I feel that Mr. Horey is being very rude and immature in
expressing his own feelings ("Bruin columnist would like to ask Al
a few questions," Oct. 27). One has to realize that there is
something called respect and responsibility, especially when you
are involved in journalism. People do read The Bruin for
information as well as for entertainment; however, there is no
place for such immature and rude humor (if you can even call that
humor). I found the article funny up to the point where he brought
up the nude pictures and the Internet stuff. I consider that a form
of libel.
The chancellor represents the university and he is trying his
best to meet with concerned students and discuss issues with them.
I feel that maybe we should hold our criticisms and watch what he
can bring to UCLA. If you have some opinions, bring it up to his
face and express it! I’m sure (or I hope) the chancellor will
welcome and respond to a gentleman’s challenge much more warmly
than those empty, irresponsible slanders.
I have to admit that I have enjoyed most of Mr. Horey’s columns,
but this one is simply out of line. Perhaps he should take on real
issues sometimes, instead of merely building up his reputation as
"that weird, obnoxious, perhaps funny guy" who writes for Viewpoint
every other week.
