W.Soccer has new coach

UCLA associate director Betsy Stephenson announced Friday that
Todd Saldana will be the new head coach for the women’s soccer
team.

The position became vacant when former head coach and U.S.
national team member Joy Fawcett resigned in order to spend more
time with her family.

Saldana served as an assistant coach for the UCLA men’s soccer
team from 1989-1994, and as head coach for Cal Poly Pomona.

Most recently, Saldana was the head coach of the men’s program
at Loyola Marymount where his team compiled an 6-9-1 record

"We feel that Todd will lead our program to the next level,"
Stephenson said. "He is an outstanding coach and is well-known
throughout the soccer community. Our program has made great strides
in its five years of existence and we are excited about the future
under Todd’s leadership."

The Bruins had their most successful year in 1997. UCLA
qualified for the NCAA Tournament for only the second time since
the program began five years ago. B
