Tactics bomb
I am absolutely disgusted and shocked by the ruthless methods
used by police officers during their recent bust at the Triangle
fraternity house ("Bomb search at Triangle Fraternity comes up
dry," May 8). Not only did they force their way into the students’
residence with battering rams and sledgehammers, but they did not
hesitate to brutally immobilize and terrorize the harmless and
unaware tenants by pointing guns at their heads.
While I may understand the urgency of the situation, I do not
justify the police’s use of such an exaggerated deployment of
specialized forces and ammunitions. This needless operation
resulted in an incredible waste of precious resources to merely
track a "suspicious" delivery to an ex-frat member.
Episodes like this cast a serious shadow of doubt on the
reputation of the very people intended to "serve and protect" us
citizens.
