General Representative

Katrina Eiland

I believe that the general representative’s primary
function is to fulfill duties not allocated to other USAC
positions. More importantly, the office should serve to be
responsible for “representing the collective interests of the
student body … soliciting from the student body information
concerning the student needs as they pertain to the student body as
a whole … “ as is stated in the Bylaws.

My primary goal as general representative would be to ensure
that all student groups receive adequate attention and funding, and
in doing so, cause USAC to function in a more democratic fashion.
It would be my personal responsibility to serve as a link between
student groups and their governing body to guarantee that I
represent the needs of the entire student population. I would
create more clear lines of communication, leading to an open forum
and discussion between all parties involved.

The second most important principle is that USAC’s primary
objective is to serve its constituents. I believe that there should
be a stronger focus on issues that directly impact the lives and
interests of students on this campus, as opposed to the current
focus on off-campus issues that do not have any direct influence.
Issues such as safety and inadequate parking have been neglected in
favor of more broad-based political issues.

In closing, I am a very qualified candidate. I would not think
to put this campus in jeopardy by attempting to fill this position
if I did not believe that I was prepared to take on the
challenge.
