Speaks Out

Elections for the Undergraduate Students Association
Council and the Graduate Students Association take place next week.
Are you planning to vote? Why or why not?

NAME: Peter Ballance   YEAR: Graduate student
  MAJOR: Law “I guess I’m not. I don’t
really know anything about it. I’m in the law school, and
actually kind of like it up there. I don’t have a whole lot
of connection to the campus as a whole. I don’t know if
that’s my fault or the fact that there’s just not a lot
of outreach. It’s like the law school is a whole different
entity.”   NAME: Steve Kovach   YEAR:
Fourth-year   MAJOR: Physical science “I’m
not really involved on campus. I’m a transfer student, and
I’ve never lived here. I just commute. I don’t keep up
with campus happenings.”   NAME: Shirin Nassi
  YEAR: First-year   MAJOR: Undeclared “I
don’t think I am going to be voting because I don’t
think I know that much about the candidates and I don’t know
too much about their different policies, what they stand for. But
if I did, then maybe I would have a stand. I’m not going to
vote for something that I have no idea about.”
  NAME: Anna-Lia Quinio   YEAR: Third-year
MAJOR: Physical science “Yes. I think it’s
really important to get involved, and know all the issues that are
going on. Because without proper representatives, then UCLA would
be less effective in serving students’ needs. So I think that
it’s important that we take control of who’s in charge
of UCLA and all the issues that we are concerned about.”
  NAME: Anthony Vulin   YEAR: Third-year
MAJOR: Sociology “I’ve never even heard
that there are elections (next week).”   NAME:
Gustavo Rincon   YEAR: Graduate student
MAJOR: Architecture “I don’t have the
adequate information. If there were more e-mails or something that
would inform me of what’s going on, then I would love to
vote. But right now, I’m not really informed. The Daily Bruin
is not adequate for me to make an educated decision.”
