Scott earns All-American honors
UCLA junior leftfielder Bill Scott was named first-team
All-American by USA Today/Baseball Weekly, the publication
announced May 18.
Scott, a Granada Hills native, is just the second player in UCLA
history and the sixth Pac-10 player ever to have at least 100 hits
(101) and 20 home runs in a single season. Anaheim Angel Troy Glaus
was the first Bruin to accomplish this feat, with 34 home runs and
a single-season school record 108 hits in 1997.
Scott finished the regular season batting .424, just four points
off Don Slaught’s school-record .428 in 1979. Scott also
ranks first on UCLA’s all-time list with a lifetime .392
average.
Scott has earned Pac-10 player of the week honors once this
season, for his play during the weekend of April 28-30 against
Washington State. Scott went 8 for 14 against the Cougars, with 12
RBIs, three doubles, a triple and two home runs.
Scott burst onto the collegiate baseball scene last year,
hitting 28 home runs and knocking in 86 runs. In a memorable
performance that earned him national player of the week honors, he
hit four home runs in a 16-15 loss to Washington.
