Hermeneutics in the Renaissance
The Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies sponsors
“I Read, Therefore I Am: Hermeneutics and Self-Consciousness
in the Renaissance.”
The symposium is on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 4 p.m. in Royce Hall,
Room 306 (Morris Seminar Room).
The lecture deals with the debate over the interpretation of
biblical and classical texts. Visiting Professor Michael Jeanneret

author’s intention to reader’s response through the
works of Erasmus and Montaigne. Both of these philosophers agree
that any interpretation implies personal commitment and increases
self-awareness. For more information, contact the center at (310)
