Do you believe school spirit is important at UCLA? If
so, how do you plan to take part in Beat ‘SC week?
Jeff Faes Second-year Communication studies During
the week I’m selling Beat ‘SC middle fingers and wearing blue. I’m
going to go to the rally and to the game on Saturday.

Psychology and political science I think school spirit is
important because it allows us to do something on this campus other
than academics. Spirit helps us take part in the unity that makes
this school what it is. There’s a limit when you infringe on the
integrity of another school’s team, but when it comes to unity you
have to go all out.” Cindi Tanabe Third-year
Economics I’m going to watch the game with my family and friends
because we’re all from UCLA and, of course, we’ll be rooting for
the Bruins. School spirit is important because it gives us a sense
of belonging and being a part of something bigger. Besides, USC
sucks in every way. Angela Fresquez First-year
English I’m participating in activities like the bonfire throughout
the week and then going to the game. I think UCLA is a spirited
school and we should participate in these types of activities, if
not to support your school, then at least to have fun.

This week we’re going to the game and to the big rivalry party the
night before. School spirit is important because it gives you more
reason to come to this campus and it makes it a fun atmosphere.
Spirit unites us with a common cause: to beat ‘SC. James
Trotter Third-year Undeclared I wear a voodoo doll on my
backpack hoping it will help. School spirit has kinda been going
downhill. Everyone should be wearing blue this week. We have to be
inundated by anti-USC stuff so at the game we know what we’re
getting into. Speaks Out is compiled by Cuauhtemoc Ortega, Daily
