Letter to UCLA students from USAC President Karren Lane

Karren Lane

On behalf of the Undergraduate Student Association Council, I
would like to send my sincere condolences to the families and loved
ones of those who suffered and died in the recent tragedy in New
York, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. Our prayers and thoughts are
with you in this time of suffering and loss. Indeed the loss of
human life is a tragedy in any context. The UCLA community should
stand together with the people of the world in their concern and
support for the victims of this tragedy.

Furthermore, the UCLA campus community should serve as pillars
of peace and unite to ensure that all members of our community are
safe. It is imperative that we conduct ourselves with respect,
tolerance and dignity towards all people. Acts of intolerance and
violence against people based on religion, race, ethnicity, sexual
orientation, gender or physical appearance will never be tolerated
on the UCLA campus. I recognize that this is an emotional time for
all of us, but as the future leaders of the global community we
must think critically about our actions and show compassion towards
all of humanity. In this time of tragedy, it is critical that we
engage in sincere dialogue in an effort to heal the suffering that
exists throughout the world everyday.

In peace.

Karren Lane USAC President
