On the air
Recent success has helped the Bruins garner increased national
exposure. This Saturday’s game will be carried by ABC,
the third time in a row the national television station has decided
to broadcast a UCLA game this season.
Earlier this season, ESPN, an ABC affiliate, broadcast the
Bruins’ game in Tuscaloosa. In addition, ABC will show the
forthcoming Stanford and Oregon contests. Last season, three
Bruin games were broadcast nationally by the station.
Hall of Fame
Eleven former Bruins will be inducted into the UCLA Hall of Fame
during halftime of the Washington game. Softball players Sharron
Backus and Lisa Longaker, former basketball stars Gary Cunningham
and John Green, gymnast Jill Andrews and track and field star
Warren Edmonson will join volleyball player Ozzie Volstad for a
ceremony on the field.
In addition, former football players Jim Brown, Charles Cheshire
and John Lee will take their places amongst the Bruin
immortals. Coach Terry Donahue, who was recently inducted into
the College Football Hall of Fame, will also be on hand for the
honor.
More honors
Senior linebacker Ryan Nece is being recognized by the team for
his outstanding play and will be an honorary captain for the
game. He will join fellow linebacker Robert Thomas, safety
Marques Anderson and tailback DeShaun Foster at midfield prior to
the first and third quarters.
Concussion discussion
Nece and wide receiver Tab Perry suffered concussions versus
Oregon State. However, all seemed back to form this week in
practice, using the bye week to help recover. Wideout Cody Joyce
has not been so lucky. Joyce, who may have been injured very
early in the season, has been diagnosed with post-concussion
syndrome and will remain out of the game on Saturday.
