Destroying their fair share of QBs

The UCLA defense has been less than kind to opposing
quarterbacks this year. Only two quarterbacks have started games
and lived to see the end ““ Ohio State’s Steve Bellisari
and Washington’s Taylor Barton.

Bellisari finished with five completions in 23 attempts for a
total of 45 yards. Barton was slightly more successful, finishing
22 of 44 with 316 yards passing. However, he probably wished he had
been taken out.

Following the game Barton was hospitalized overnight after
taking too many hits from Bruin defenders.

“That’s our number one goal,” UCLA linebacker
Ryan Nece said. “The quarterback is the heart and soul of the
offense. When he isn’t in rhythm it messes things
up.”

Bruins prepare homecoming snake tactic

Keep an eye on the Bruin’s first huddle this Saturday
night. When the team breaks for the line of scrimmage, they will do
so in a snake-like pattern.

It is called the Serpentine Huddle, a tactic used by legendary
UCLA coach Red Sanders.

Sanders coached the 1954 football team that won UCLA’s
first and only football national championship. Head coach Bob
Toledo uses the Serpentine Huddle for the first play each year on
homecoming to honor the late coach and other football alumni.

Foster faces Bears for first time in career

Senior tailback DeShaun Foster will face the Bears for the first
time in his career this Saturday.

Foster was hurt the previous three games with knee and hand
injuries.

Last year without their star running back, the Bruins tallied
just 45 yards on the ground despite getting three extra overtime
periods to help pad that stat. They plan to do different on
Saturday.

Lights are a welcomed change

The Bruins play under the lights on Saturday for the first time
since their season opener in Alabama. For most players this
represents a return to normalcy.

“In high school all we do is play under the lights,”
Nece said.

Others just like evening weather better.

“I’m just glad it’s not going to be so darn
hot,” sophomore wide receiver Tab Perry said.
