Gays not immoral, deserve respect

In response to J. Daniel Williams’ letter (“Homosexuality immoral,
doesn’t deserve respect
“ Daily Bruin, Oct. 29), I
am not gay, and I suppose neither is Williams. So why must he
concern himself with what gays do with their lives? God forbid
people be happy, love each other, and be allowed to express this
love openly. Aren’t there bigger things to worry about?

Second, what is the “gay left”? Last time I checked,
gays placed themselves throughout the political gamut. Gays want to
be accepted as people, no matter what their political
affiliation.

Finally, why do all of these homophobics insist on this greater
“moral right”? Who sets this standard, and why have
these moral extremists appointed themselves mine and everyone
else’s moral judge? My morality dictates that I should love
and accept others ““ so according to my moral barometer, these
homophobics who spread ignorance and hatred are the ones whose
practices need to be abolished and abhorred by the UCLA
community.

Homosexuality is not a new thing, and it is not a new phenomenon
to accept the behavior or celebrate it. This is not something that
will go away, because it is natural. Whether you accept it or not
is irrelevant. It will continue to be, and making homosexuals feel
ashamed and marginalized will serve no purpose but to further
divide people and spread hateful behavior.

Your assertions of correlation between homosexuals and negative
consequences are so blatantly flawed they are almost not worth
responding to.

Make the best of your time at UCLA, meet some people outside of
your social bubble, take a few statistics and sociology courses,
and you may realize just how drastically flawed your views are.
Yes, homosexuality may be correlated to suicide ““ that is
because hateful, spiteful people such as yourself make them feel
less than human.

Young gays have enough to deal with. Pile on the moral police,
social exclusion and the fact that they cannot change the way they
feel, and what results are suicidal tendencies. And you people
think you have the right to dictate what is right and wrong? Last
time I checked, the Bible did not preach hate, marginalization or
judgment.

Mind your own life, live it by the standards you see fit and let
others do the same.
