Apparently college students need their hand held when crossing
the street ““ at least that’s what USAC general
representative David Dahle thinks.
Recently, Dahle wrote letters to the city’s Department of
Transportation asking for a crosswalk to be installed at Gayley and
Landfair Avenue, where students sometimes cross from the nearby
apartments to the Saxon residential suites.
But students don’t need a crosswalk between Gayley and
Landfair ““ they need a general representative who
doesn’t waste time on irrelevant agendas. Just look 100 feet
down on either side of the intersection, and you’ll see
street lights and crosswalks in both directions. But if a crosswalk
will get Dahle to stop wasting the city’s time and resources
on DOT studies to assess traffic patterns, then give him his two
stripes of paint and let’s move on.
If Dahle thinks installing a crosswalk will turn him into a
household name at UCLA and pave the way for a USAC presidential
campaign next year, he better look both ways before running. He and
the other representatives should focus on more important concerns
that deal with students’ quality of life, such as the
constant De Neve construction delays ““ or lack thereof.
More students are affected and irritated by the two-hour parking
limit signs garnishing Westwood, the superfluous twice a week
street cleaning/distribution of parking tickets fiasco, and the
fear of UCLA running out of parking than they are concerned for
some students jaywalking because they’re late for
parties.
Dahle, solving these issues will not only truly help students
““ it too can work to boost your resume.
