UCLA gymnastics meets are getting redundant. Each home meet
comes down to the final rotation, the final competitor and the
first perfect 10 of the meet. UCLA defeated Oregon State
197.55 to 194.925.

UCLA sophomore Jamie Dantzscher recorded her sixth straight
perfect 10 on the floor routine, putting the finishing touches on
her personal best 39.8 in the all-around. Dantzscher won every
event except for the balance beam, though she set a personal best
with a 9.900.

Alyssa Beckerman won on the balance beam for the second straight
meet, earning a personal best 9.950. Beckerman’s most
challenging endeavor on the afternoon, however, was an impressive
performance in front of the crowd of 1,508 in singing the national
anthem.

“I’m more nervous to go up and sing,”
Beckerman said. “After I’m done I’m like,
“˜OK, now I just have the meet.’ It’s definitely
terrifying.”

Malia Jones set a personal best as well, recording a 9.875 in
addition to a 39.100 in the all-around.

UCLA’s team score was its highest this year, and the
Bruins’ strong performances are coming at a convenient
time. The Pac-10 Championships are in one month, and the
Bruins are peaking just in time.

“We’re getting into a rhythm,” head coach
Valorie Kondos Field said. “This was pretty much our
“˜A’ team. We’re starting to make that excitement
happen and not wait for it to happen. It’s not easy to
make it click.”

“It definitely means something,” junior Onnie Willis
said. “It was great to break a 197 ““ that’s
what we’ve been going for the last few weeks. It was
good to have everyone come together. We had a good time tonight and
it was exciting.”

The Bruins managed to score above a 49 on each individual event,
while the Beavers failed to score above a 49.
