Asians sought for marrow drive
The Asian American Medical Students Association is holding a
marrow drive April 10 and 11.
The drive is to find matching donors for patients with illnesses
such as leukemia.
Because donors are more likely to be found within a
patient’s own ethnicity, Asian donors are being sought for
this particular event to help Asian patients.
The procedure requires a small blood sample. Participants should
be between 18 and 60 years old.
To register, call (888) 236-4673 or visit www.asianmarrow.org for more
information.
Forum takes on gender roles
The Gay and Lesbian Association and GenderPAC will present
GenderPAC Executive Director Riki Wilchins and National Coalition
of Women President Patricia Ireland to discuss how traditional
gender roles are “oppressive and harmful to everyone,
regardless of gender or sexual orientation.”
“We hope this event shows people that they can just be
themselves, that they don’t have to look or act how society
wants them to,” said Adam Simon, co-chair of GALA.
“This is a discussion which this campus has been avoiding for
some time.”
Following the event, Wilchins and Ireland will be signing their
respective books dealing with gender politics in society.
Wilchins is the author of “Read My Lips: Sexual Subversion
& the End of Gender.”
Ireland is the author of “What Women Want.”
A faculty, staff and graduate student reception will be held in
Kinsey 355 on April 10 at 10 a.m.
