GSA candidate applications due
Graduate Student Association applications are due Monday. All
candidates should submit their applications to 316 Kerckhoff by 5
p.m. A photo and statement of intent may also be submitted.
Expert on civil rights to speak
Harvard University law professor Lani Guinier, a noted civil
rights expert and author, will be the keynote speaker at the
thirteenth annual Thurgood Marshall Lecture on Law and Human
Rights, sponsored by the UCLA Center for African American
Studies.
The event will begin with a book signing at 5:30 p.m., followed
by a reception at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and Guinier’s
lecture at 8 p.m.
The event will take place in the Covel Commons Grand Horizon
room.
UCR chancellor meeting booked
The UC Board of regents will hold a special meeting Tuesday to
address the appointment of the new UC Riverside chancellor.
The meeting will be a teleconference with a UC Regent available
near several campus locations. A participating regent will be at
the James West Alumni Center at 4 p.m.
History book sale spans two days
The Phi Alpha Theta history society will be holding a book sale
Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. the event
is open to the public.
The sale will be held at the Bunche Hall south courtyard and
lawn.
Conference looks at economy
The Anderson School at UCLA will host an information-economy
conference, “The Business of Technology: Perspectives,
Problems, Profitability,” on Thursday and Friday.
Held by The Center for Management in the Information Economy,
this two-day conference features 36 sessions with more than 90
speakers, moderators and panelists.
The conference will focus on the key issues facing the business
of technology, examining successful business models, how technology
firms compete effectively and factors that accelerate adoption of
new technologies.
Prominent technology business leaders will present their
perspectives on the problems confronting the information economy
today and how companies can implement strategies to reach
profitability.
