Coming off of a second place finish at the Oregon State
Invitational, the Bruins went into Tacoma, Wash. looking for a
win.
Unfortunately, they got off to a bad start at the Edean
Ihlanfeldt Invitational Monday, finishing in seventh place out of
11 teams after day one, 11 shots behind USC for the overall
lead.
For the Bruins, Charlotte Mayorkas shot the best score with a
one-under par score of 72. Junior Gina Umeck and freshman Susie
Mathews shot a 76, while junior Hana Kim and sophomore Yvonne Choe
shot a 79. Combined, they shot a 303.
Overall, USC’s Becky Lucidi leads the field with a 65. The
next team ahead of the Bruins is Oregon, by two strokes.
The Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational was named after the founder of
Washington’s Women’s Golf program. Ihlanfeldt not only
founded the program, but coached it for the first seven years and
never accepted any form of payment for it.
USC is the defending champion of the tournament, beating
Stanford by 14 strokes.
The second round of the tournament will be played today, and the
third and final round will be played tomorrow.
