UCLA to host 2004 College Cup
UCLA was selected to host the 2004 Men’s College Cup by
the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Committee on Thursday.
The games will be held at the Home Depot Center, which is
currently being built by the Anschultz Entertainment Group in
Carson, Calif.
“UCLA is honored to be selected to serve as host
institution for this fine event,” UCLA Athletic Director Dan
Guerrero said in a statement. “The combination of experience
in hosting NCAA events and a world-class facility will provide an
environment of which Southern California and collegiate soccer
would be proud.”
The Home Depot Center will open June 1, 2003, and will be the
home of Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy beginning
this season.
UCLA won the 2002 Men’s College Cup, which was held in
Dallas, Texas, and was hosted by Southern Methodist University.
The 2004 Men’s College Cup was also supposed to be held in
Dallas, but with stadium renovations, good field conditions could
not be guaranteed.
