Track competes at Oxy Invitational
Both the No. 16 men’s and No. 4 women’s track and
field teams were in action Saturday at the Oxy Invitational in
preparation for next weekend’s Pac-10 Championships.
Senior Cari Soong placed second in the hammer throw with a
personal best throw of 211 feet, 4 inches. That mark moves her into
third place on the national charts behind USC’s Julianna
Tudja and Florida’s Candice Scott.
Melissa McBain (1500 meters), Sheena Gordon (triple jump), and
Chaniqua Ross (discus) each picked up victories for the Bruins.
On the men’s side, senior Kyle Erickson won the 400-meter
hurdles with a season-best mark of 49.78 seconds. That moves him
into sixth on the national charts, one-tenth of a second behind
USC’s Ryan Wilson for the conference’s best time.
A trio of 800m runners, Ben Aragon (1:48.41), Nick Thornton
(1:49.42) and Martell Munguia (1:49.73) also posted season best and
NCAA Regional Qualifying marks.
