Pryce’s U-21 team wins Nordic Cup

Pryce, won the Nordic Cup by beating Sweden 2-1.
The Nordic Cup is widely considered to be the most prestigious
Under-21 women’s soccer tournament.
“It wasn’t a pretty game,” U.S. coach Chris
Petrucelli said in a statement. “It was two tired teams sort
of slugging it out. It was a physical battle, but we did what we
had to do to win.”
It was the fourth match in seven days for the United States; the
team had gone 2-0-1 in the three games of group play.
Team captain Joanna Lohman of Penn State scored both goals,
including the game-winner in the 55th minute.
Pryce was part of a defense that gave up only two goals in four
games.
“The players in the back ““ Cat Reddick (North
Carolina), Amy LePeilbet (Arizona State) and especially Nandi Pryce
““ were great during the whole tournament,” Petrucelli
said. “It was difficult to score against us, and ultimately
that’s why we won.”
It was the United States’ fifth consecutive championship
and sixth in seven years.
The UCLA women’s soccer season opens Aug. 29 at Santa
Clara. The Bruins’ first home match is Sept. 3 against UC
Santa Barbara.
U.S.A. Women’s Water Polo wins Gold Medal, Beauregard

With an 8-6 win over Italy in the final, team U.S.A. won the
women’s water polo competition at the FINA World
Championships in Barcelona, Spain.
UCLA’s Robin Beauregard scored a goal and Cal’s
Ericka Lorenz scored four.
“We’ve come close a couple of times, so it’s
nice to finally be called World Champions,” U.S. coach Guy
Baker said. Baker also coached at UCLA from 1991-2000.
UCLA’s Natalie Golda and Amber Stachowski also played in
the gold medal match.
Italy was the reigning back-to-back champion.
On the men’s side, team U.S.A. finished in sixth
place.
UCLA’s Brandon Brooks had eight saves in the fifth-place
game and Bruin Brett Ormsby scored a goal.
