Bruin digest: Jim Harrick named scout and coaching assistant for the Denver Nuggets

Former UCLA men’s basketball coach Jim Harrick was hired
Monday by the Denver Nuggets as a scout and coaching assistant.
Harrick resigned from the head coaching job at Georgia in March
after accusations were made involving academic fraud and improper
payments to players. Harrick has also coached at Pepperdine and
Rhode Island. He won a national championship while at UCLA in 1995
but was fired in 1996 after lying on an expense report.

now received the MPSF/Mikasa Player of the Week honor four times in
his UCLA career. He leads the team in scoring with 19 goals, and
has scored at least one goal in 40 consecutive matches, dating back
to the 2001 season.

FOOTBALL: Former Bruin quarterback Cory Paus has signed with the
Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. He will serve
as the team’s third-string quarterback. Paus, who played for
the Bruins from 1999-2002, is second on the Bruin career passing
list with 6,877 yards.

BASKETBALL: According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the Cleveland
Cavaliers are expected to sign former UCLA men’s basketball
player Jelani McCoy on Thursday. McCoy, a five-year NBA veteran,
averaged 10.4 points per game for the Bruins from 1996-1998.

MEN’S SOCCER: Washington sophomore midfielder Leo Totev
was named the Pac-10 Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for
Sept. 23-29. Totev registered two goals and an assist in the
Huskies’ 3-0 upset of No. 11 South Carolina in the Husky
Fever Classic on Sunday. No. 22 Washington (6-0-1) hosts UCLA on
Oct. 5.
