Speaks out

Has the recall election made you feel more connected with the
political process? Sagi Mathai

Graduate student, electrical engineering
“[The recall] has gotten me to think more about what is going
on in politics today in California. I became a citizen only a few
years ago, and ever since then I have voted. It is just very
interesting to see what is going on, especially with the variety of
candidates we have in this election.”

Tom Cendejas

Graduate student, education
“I was always interested. I do not feel more connected, but I
find it interesting that the rest of the country is so interested
in what is going on in California.”

Justin Guarino

Third-year, English
“I have not been keeping up that much [with the recall]. I am
pretty apolitical. I am fairly apathetic that way.”

Alex Yu

Fourth-year, molecular, cell and developmental
biology

“Well, I am interested. I do not really follow it really
closely. I would follow more elections if I had the
time.”

Dawn Balcanoff

Fourth-year, psychology
“Not really. It just reaffirmed what I did not like about
politics already. The recall was very much like a
circus.”

Kristina Doan

Second-year, political science
“I have been as involved in politics as ever. But I have
learned a whole lot about people’s perception about

politics.”
