Bruin Digest: Men’s tennis to send seven to ITA Fall Regional Championships


Seven players from the UCLA men’s tennis team will be
playing in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Fall Regional
Championships this week at the Home Depot Center in Carson.

Senior Tobias Clemens, the preseason No. 3
player in the nation, is the tournament’s No. 1 seed. Clemens
will face Loyola’s Mike Wojnarowicz in the
first round today.

Junior Chris Lam is seeded No. 3, and he will
take on a qualifier in the first round. Lam is coming off a solid
performance in the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Men’s Tennis
Championships, where he won two matches and reached the
quarterfinals. Lam lost his quarterfinal match in three sets to
eventual champion Alex Vlaski of Washington.

Bruin junior Kris Kwinta, a transfer from
Tennessee, will take on San Francisco’s Jorgen
Arnesen
, and junior Alberto Francis will
face a qualifier.

Francis is coming off singles and doubles titles at the Fresno
State Bulldog Tennis Classic held last weekend.

Sophomores Aaron Yovan and Chris
Surapol
are also in the main draw. Yovan will face Drew
Hoskins of USC in the first round and Surapol will face a
qualifier.

The tournament is hosted by USC.

MEN’S WATER POLO: UCLA sophomore center
defender Michael March was named the Mikasa/MPSF
Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 13″“19.

March scored the game-winning goal in UCLA’s 7-6 sudden
death overtime win over then-No. 1 California on Sunday at the Rose
Bowl Aquatic Center.

This is the second time March has received the honor in his
career.

MEN’S SOCCER: UCLA seniors Adolfo
Gregorio
and Matt Taylor have been
selected to Soccer America’s Team of the Week for games
played Oct. 13-19.

Gregorio scored one goal and tallied four assists in last
weekend’s matches against Cal and Stanford. Taylor had three
goals and two assists.
