Speaks out

What do you think about the Bruin Republicans’ campaign
against MEChA’s “El Plan de Aztlán”?
Marie Meth Third-year, English “I think that
they should do something else with their time. I am a Republican,
but I am not a member of Bruin Republicans, and I think we have
bigger issues ““ like presidential elections ““ going
on.” Nick Rudman First-year, undeclared
“The thing that sticks out to me is that the Bruin
Republicans is the only group that has an issue with this. I really
did not see any other groups speaking up as fervently against
(MEChA). I do not think that MEChA is an extremist group that wants
to rip the union apart.” Andrew Lah Third-year,
law
“It was somewhat naive for Bruin Republicans to
try to compare MEChA ““ a group that is about political,
cultural and social empowerment ““ to Nazi Germany. I thought
it was inappropriate “¦ a poor way to try to relate two very
different groups.” Sarah Monroe Second-year, business
economics
“I think that people should be sensitive,
and that the Bruin Republicans might have been out of line. But I
cannot tell you how I feel about (the meeting) because I was not
there.” Compiled by Roman Barbalat, Photos by Rachel
