Bruin Republicans wants debate

Since the conclusion of our major tabling events designed
to educate the campus on the racist El Plan Espiritual de
Aztlán, Bruin Republicans has sought to secure a date and time
for a debate with MEChA.

Unfortunately for those interested in attending a moderated and
intellectual discourse pertaining to the exclusionary ideology
contained in this document, MEChA de UCLA has continued to dance
around the issue, ignore our phone calls and utilize
delay tactics in the hopes that this issue will pass along
with this quarter.

Since being labeled as ignorant of the issues, Bruin
Republicans has consistently attended MEChA’s Wednesday
night meetings. We were told by the MEChA chairwoman that a debate
would be constructive, yet she has postponed her decision two
successive weeks and has failed to return our messages.

In the meantime, we have put Al Rantel at KABC radio on
standby since he has agreed to air the debate whenever the
time gets settled. This complete dismissal of our group by
MEChA echoes its attitude to our initial letter regarding our
distaste for the document, prior to our main anti-MEChA
campaign.

Nevertheless, Bruin Republicans refuses to let this issue be
laid to rest by those who silence alternative thought and play the
race card in response to charges of anti-Americanism. A debate
venue has been chosen solely by the Bruin Republicans,
advertisements have been circulated and KABC studios has been
notified. MEChA is asked to end its avoidance of campus
scrutiny, and defend its viewpoints to all of Los Angeles.
