Three future and potential Bruins competed in
McDonald’S games Both men’s golf coach O.D.
Vincent and women’s golf coach Carrie Forsyth have been named
the respective men’s and women’s coaches of the
USA-Japan Team Matches this summer. The event will be held July
13-16 at the Taiheiyou Club Ichihara Course in Chiba, Japan. Both
coaches are guiding successful squads this year as the
women’s team is ranked second nationally and the men’s
team fourth. “They will provide great leadership to the
student-athletes on their respective squads and will represent our
country with eminence,” Athletic Director Dan Guerrero said.
“The selection of Carrie Forsyth as the women’s coach shows
how far both of the UCLA golf programs have advanced in a short
period of time,” Vincent said. “Both of us are thrilled
to be a part of this experience, and we relish the opportunity to
coach together as part of the U.S. contingent in Japan.”
MEN’S BASKETBALL: The East team beat the
West team 126-96 in the McDonald’s High School All-American
game last Wednesday. The West squad featured UCLA-bound
Jordan Farmar and Arron Afflalo
and possible signee Malik Hairston. Farmar
finished with a game-high seven steals, but had four turnovers.
Afflalo had two points on just 1-for-7 shooting. Hairston, who
reportedly is still deciding among UCLA, Kansas, Michigan and Ohio
State, poured in 12 points.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: UCLA signee
Lindsey Pluimer scored two points and grabbed
seven rebounds in the West’s 91-66 loss in the
McDonald’s All-American girls’ game. Pluimer, who will
graduate from San Clemente High School this June,will likely see
action next year for the Bruins at one of the forward
positions.
MEN’S GOLF: UCLA’s Blue team will
take part in the LMU Invitational today and Tuesday. The Bruins are
coming off of a second-place finish this past weekend at the
Augusta State Invitational in Augusta , Ga.
