Calendar: Film & TV

“Big Fish”
Ackerman Grand Ballroom
April 8-9, 7 and 9:30 p.m. If you missed Tim Burton’s lesson
in fantasy filmmaking when it was competing with Oscar films in
December, you can catch it now. And while the story is choppier
than the waves in the Bermuda Triangle, Ewan McGregor’s
performance as a man who has all the luck in the world is something
to see. Tickets are $2 at the door.

“100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All
Time”

Comedy Central
April 12-16, 9 p.m. How it’s possible to rank the 100 best
stand-up comedians of all time is beyond us, but Comedy Central
will give it a shot in a weeklong series. While legends like
Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce are locks, how will the list handle
comedians like Woody Allen, who started in stand-up but eventually
moved away from the form? You’ll have to tune in to find
out

“Aileen: The Life and Death of a Serial
Killer”

James Bridges Theater
April 13, 7:30 p.m. Don’t think this documentary is riding on
the coattails of Charlize Theron’s Oscar, for which she
played Aileen Carol Wuornos, the subject of this documentary and
“Monster.” This is actually the second part of a longer
documentary about the female killer. Director and cinematographer
Joan Churchill will hold a Q&A session following the free
screening, making the night a rare educational supplement to the
drama of “Monster.”
