Ben Howland extends contract; Former Bruin signs with
WNBA

Ben Howland and UCLA finalized terms for a
contract extension earlier this week keeping him in Westwood
through the 2011 season.

The rollover clause in Howland’s contract stipulates he
will receive $150,000 as a base-salary annually and also includes
at least $750,000 in additional bonuses per season. He also has
monetary incentives for conference and national championships as
wells as graduation rates.

Howland led the Bruins to an 11-18 record in his first season as
head coach. UCLA lost in the quarterfinals of the

Pac-10 Tournament to Washington.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Former Bruin
Michelle Greco has signed a contract with the
WNBA’s Seattle Storm and will compete for a backup guard
spot. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Greco was an All-Pac-10 selection her senior year in 2002-03,
leading the Bruins to a fourth place finish in the Pac-10. She was
not selected in the WNBA Draft last year, instead signing with
Maccabi Ra’anana, a pro club in
Israel’s First Division, where she averaged nearly 25 points
per game.

First cuts in the WNBA take place on May 4.

WOMEN’S SOCCER: UCLA women’s soccer
players Stacy Lindstrom, Bristyn
Davis
and Stephanie Kron have all been
selected to represent the Under-19 U.S. National Team in its bid to
qualify for this November’s 2004 World Championships.

If the U.S. qualifies for the championships and each Bruin is
named to squad as expected, the trio will redshirt the 2004
season.

“We always make it a priority for our players to have the
opportunity to play for their national teams,” UCLA coach
Jill Ellis said. “To see these three achieve this first step
is terrific.”
