Did you vote in the USAC elections, and what issues do you think
will be important for next year’s elections? Diana
Massaband Third-year, political science “Yeah, I
voted because it’s important to be able to get your opinion
and get your own views across to people who represent the
university. … I think that right now the most controversy between
the two different stances is who’s getting the funding, so I
guess that’s going to continue to be the most important,
because I guess money talks.” Shake Ovasapyan
Fourth-year, microbiology, immunology and molecular
genetics “I voted in both the elections. …. I
think student funding is by far one of the most important issues we
have to address next year because it’s something that affects
all of us and we want to make sure all groups have access. But
there are certain groups that do a lot more with all the funding,
and they have a lot more important issues that are more critical to
the advancement of UCLA and the minorities here.”
Grant Sanders First-year, microbiology, immunology and
molecular genetics “I did not vote; no particular
reason why. All the people handing stuff out on Bruin Walk,
it’s annoying, and I tried to ignore it. I was going to vote,
but I missed the primary. … For me, the Cal Grant (will be
important next year) because they’re thinking about not
raising the Cal Grant with the rising fees, and I think that is
definitely going to affect me somehow.”
