Letters to the sports desk

Don’t slander hockey with veiled
insults

After reading the article “Midnight Warriors” in
last Thursday’s Daily Bruin, I must condemn your pervasive
use of veiled derogatory comments. Perhaps you had good intentions
in writing an article that paints the UCLA hockey team as a band of
“ragamuffin heroes,” but your report fails to alleviate
any of the team’s present difficulties.

Any member of the team would agree that the club’s
treasury bears little funds, and that the late practices prove to
be taxing in a myriad of ways. In writing this article, however,
you have done damage to the UCLA hockey team. In declaring that
their scrimmage against Chapman “wasn’t exactly
glamorous,” you begin to whittle away at an already fragile
fan base.

This is a year where UCLA has a powerful hockey team.
Unfortunately, you may have preemptively diminished ticket sales,
thereby compounding the problems you have so carelessly
announced.

(N)ice article about Bruin hockey team

A friend who I work with at UCLA football games doing stats gave
me a few Daily Bruins Saturday. I noticed your article on the UCLA
club ice hockey team last Thursday. I enjoyed it very much!
