Letters to the sports desk

Leave driving to the professionals

I completely agree with your entire article entitled “Cars
too fast for Westwood comfort” (Nov. 3). I drive a modified
car, but luckily I’m not like Mr. Speed. I too am tired of
the boy racers who think that their Honda Civics are fast because
of the super loud “bees in a can” exhaust they put on
from Pep Boys. Kudos to you for making fun of the people that
everyone in the tuning scene already laughs at.

Identity is in the eye of the beholder

Unless you consider the networking value of college, it does not
really matter where you go for most people (in response to Hector
Leano’s column “UCLA identity crisis no more,”
Nov. 5). So enjoy the movie stars at UCLA and get ready to forget
where you graduated from, because the only one who will care about
it in the future is you.

Keep the Trojan streak alive

Your article was well (sic) but lacked substance (in response to
Gilbert Quiñonez’s column “Never say never for
UCLA victory over USC,” Nov. 4). The thought that the
“streak” might end is flat wrong. The streak has just
begun. USC will long dominate UCLA in athletics. You say 86 years
for Boston? What about 86 more wins against UCLA in football? That
is a streak that has just begun!

Why can’t UCLA find a quick solution?

A quick fix can fix a lot of problems: Pete Carroll won a
national championship in his third year at USC. Jeff Tedford has
been at Cal for three years and his team is ranked No. 4 . One
would expect no less from Dorrell next year.

But football at UCLA is not about winning: It’s an
exercise in sociology, political correctness gone mad.
