Woman’s ramblings not admissible in murder
case
SAN BERNARDINO “”mdash; A Long Beach woman charged with killing a
Crestline man nearly eight months ago was freed, after a judge
ruled that her rambling statements to detectives cannot be used
against her.
Lilia Chavez, 52, was arrested for murder on April 3, after she
allegedly told detectives she struggled with David Edwards, 47,
outside his home and shot him to death near the front door of his
mountain community home.
“They should have advised her of her right to remain
silent and her right to an attorney,” defense attorney Mark
Werksman said Monday.
Chavez, who was in the mountains to attend a retreat, had
wandered from her car and was disoriented when she was found near
Edwards’ Jupiter Way home.

SANTA MONICA “”mdash; A memorabilia collector was ordered Tuesday
to turn over O.J. Simpson’s press credentials from the 1984
Olympics in another tiny step toward satisfying a $33.5 million
award in a lawsuit that found Simpson liable for the deaths of his
ex-wife and her friend.
The order was issued after a closed-door court hearing to
determine whether Simpson is hiding assets from the family of Ron
Goldman, who was slain with Nicole Brown Simpson in 1994.
