Letters to the sports desk

The total number of e-mails responding to UCLA’s
defeat in the Las Vegas Bowl to Wyoming has now topped 3,000. Sad
to say, this will be the final sample of responses from that
game.

Enjoy.

Finally, a refreshing perspective

It is very nice to see the class you have taken to print some of
the letters you have received regarding the idiotic article by one
Gilbert Quiñonez.

I hope that this is the true reflection of your storied
university, not the one given by Mr. Quiñonez.

I was happy to see these responses printed and I do hope that
your daily readers now know this “writer” for the clown
that he really seems to be.

Tired of getting bowled over

I am sick and tired of watching a talentless, classless,
ill-prepared, unmotivated team ““ whether it is the football
team, basketball team or baseball team. There hasn’t been a
year since the “Wooden years” that has been
respectable. Please don’t talk to me about the Toledo teams
or the Donahue teams or anyone else.

Those teams weren’t built on discipline. They survived on
what little talent they had.

I really don’t know what (athletic director Dan) Guerrero
is thinking. I heard him on a radio show not too long ago and he
seemed very happy with the state of things. I can tell you, not
having talked to anyone in the alumni, but speaking for a Bruin
nation, that the time is YESTERDAY! Not now. Put some respectable
teams on the field/court.

I just watched the end of the famous Las Vegas bowl, and our
guys holding their heads in their hands like they couldn’t
believe it. I don’t feel bad for these guys. I could smell
disaster 500 miles away. Hell, I am inclined to root for a real
team across town. They at least play with some pride!

Does anyone have any pride at UCLA anymore? Does anyone rise to
the occasion anymore?

Neither the team nor the fans showed up

I read your touching article about UCLA getting shafted in their
bowl game and there are a few points I would like to touch on.

Thank you for reminding me that California is such a great place
where all the fruits and nuts are from, but enough about all you
people living there.

If you think UCLA should have been in a better bowl, then you
just need to play better and not lose five games.

Although I didn’t make it, it was inspiring to see we
outnumbered the UCLA fan base by almost three to one! Now maybe you
ought to write in your school paper about devotion or pride to
inspire your readers and UCLA fans instead of chumming the water
for all of us sharks to feast upon!

I can’t believe you didn’t have more people there
with the high unemployment rate in California. There were surely
lots of you that didn’t have to work at all, especially UCLA
grads!

No more making excuses

I just wanted to vent my frustration.

The loss to Wyoming was inexcusable!!
