Speaks out

Why is Black History Month the only month dedicated to an
ethnicity? Do you think this is appropriate? Tanzib Hossain
Second-year, biology
“I think the main reason is
because in the history of the U.S., the African Americans, next to
the Caucasians, have been here longer than any other race.
That’s probably one reason why they have a month.”
Rimma Osipov Third-year, history “Well, I
understand how blacks are the most vocal minority in the U.S., but
I can see how every other minority would feel left out. I think
every culture should do it in their own way; there doesn’t
have to be a time.” Stephanie Tennant Second-year,
economics
“They probably had good intentions, but I
don’t really think it’s appropriate because that just
means February is the only month you should celebrate that ethnic
group, and that’s just not the case.”
