Oregon forward Ian Crosswhite has been dismissed from the
Duck’s basketball team after being suspended last week for
unspecified violations of athletic department policy.
Coach Ernie Kent suspended the 6-foot-11-inch Australian junior
indefinitely, but said that Crosswhite will remain at the
university and retain his scholarship. Crosswhite averaged 8.4
points and 5.7 rebounds per game with 17 starts in 19 games this
season.
MEN’S SOCCER: Chivas USA, an MLS expansion soccer team,
will scrimmage with the UCLA men’s soccer team at the Home
Depot Center in Carson on Saturday. Former Bruin defender Aaron
Lopez, who was recently drafted into the MLS by Chivas USA, will
get his first chance to face his former team.
SOFTBALL: After dropping a 2-1 decision to Syracuse, the UCLA
softball team will head to San Diego for the Campbell/Cartier
Tournament. The Bruins are hoping that the weather does not put a
damper on their hopes as weather forecasts show a slight chance of
rain on both Friday and Saturday.
Last week, UCLA had to cancel five of its games in the Kajikawa
Tournament in Tempe, Ariz., due to rain.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: UCLA women’s basketball recruit
Ashlee Trebilcock, out of William S. Hart High School in Newhall,
was named this week as one of the nation’s top-20
girl’s basketball players. The 5-foot-9-inch guard will take
part in the 14th annual WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches
Association) High School All-America Game, presented by Nike.
