Long Beach council to decide on natural gas
terminal
LONG BEACH “”mdash; The City Council passed a resolution telling
federal energy officials to back off and allow the city to decide
on a proposed $450 million liquefied natural gas terminal in the
port.
The council’s unanimous vote Tuesday opposes a Federal
Energy Regulatory Commission move to gain control of LNG decisions
nationwide, including the power of eminent domain.
Supporters and opponents of Sound Energy Solutions’
proposal to build the LNG terminal supported the council
resolution, saying they want local officials to make the
decisions.
SES adviser Seiichi Tsurumi said the company is confident it can
win over local officials with its plans.
“˜”˜We firmly believe that local citizens should have
the ultimate say,” he said.
