ACADEMIC AFFAIRS: Active Sassounian has worthy plans

Michelle Sassounian is an articulate and convincing leader who
has been working for the Academic Affairs Commission since 2003. A
member of Bruins United, Sassounian is the only candidate for
Academic Affairs commissioner.

As director of the Undergraduate Student Initiated Education
program, she has helped pilot one of the nation’s few
programs where undergraduate students are allowed to teach classes
for credit.

Next year, the program has the potential to grow and become an
exciting part of the campus curriculum.

Sassounian says she plans to establish collegial working
relationships with campus administrations but will also fight for
students’ rights.

She has said the repeal or reform of the expected cumulative
progress requirement and the passage of a one-course diversity
requirement are among her primary goals.

Students should be confident when they vote for Sassounian that
she will be an effective Academic Affairs commissioner.
