Editorial: Daily Bruin Editorial Board USAC Endorsements

For the first time in many years, the student leaders at this
year’s council table will be from different slates and
different ideologies.

Rather than shrugging off elections entirely, voting along party
lines or mimicking a student group endorsement, the Daily Bruin
Editorial Board encourages all students to consider all candidates
thoroughly before logging onto MyUCLA to cast their votes.

This Tuesday through Thursday, students will have the
opportunity to vote for individuals to represent them in the
undergraduate student government.

Traditionally, less than a quarter of undergrads exercise the
right to vote in USAC elections.

In elections that are often decided by a mere 50 or a hundred
votes, one vote carries substantially more weight in campus
elections than any other election.

And if you’re looking for a reason to vote, look to your
wallet. USAC is entrusted with the responsibility of allocating
about $2.4 million in student fees to student organizations and for
their own offices which plan programming and lobby on
students’ behalf in D.C., Sacramento and Murphy Hall.

This is your chance to have a say ““ don’t choose to
stay silent.
