Small SoCal quake injures none
PALM SPRINGS “”mdash; A small earthquake shook southern Riverside
County early Sunday, and there were no immediate reports of
injuries or damage. The magnitude-3.2 quake hit at 6:30 a.m. about
26 miles south-southwest of Palm Springs and 7 miles south of the
community of Anza near the Cahuilla Indian Reservation, according
to a preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey. There were
no reports of injuries or damage, a dispatcher with the county
sheriff’s department said. About five hours after the
Riverside County temblor, a magnitude-3.0 quake struck in Mexico,
about 24 miles south-southeast of the border town of Calexico.
Man shot, killed following dispute
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. “”mdash; A 26-year-old man was shot and
killed and four others were wounded, two critically, after an
argument broke out at a large party Saturday in a typically quiet
area. Los Angeles Police Department officers responded at 1 a.m. to
a home near Mulholland Drive and Topanga Canyon Boulevard after a
report of gunshots and a loud party. Police said more than 200
young people were at the party, including gang members. When
officers arrived, many were running from the scene, including the
suspected shooter. Officers found Jaime Galindo Chavez, 26, of
Reseda, dead on the living room floor, LAPD spokeswoman Kristi
Sandoval said. Chavez had been shot several times in the head and
body.
