Sophomore Marcus Everett has established himself as UCLA’s
leading wide receivier in his second year on the team, something he
was unable to do last season as a freshman. Everett has made
several key receptions in the Bruins’ victories this
season,
including his first career touchdown reception on a 96-yard,
last-minute drive in Saturday’s game against Washington
State.
Daily Bruin: You were also a top recruit for basketball. Why
did you decide to play football?
Marcus Everett: I just felt like I could go farther in football.
If I was a little bit taller, I’d play basketball. I’m
6-foot-1 and there’s a lotta 6-foot-1 point guards so I just
felt that football was my ticket.
DB: One-on-one, you and Jordan Farmar. Do you think
you’d be able to take him?
ME: Yeah I think so.
DB: You think so? Say there’s 10 seconds left in the
game and he was covering you, what would you do to him?
ME: I’d probably go to the left, cross over back to the
right and then pull up for the three and make it in his face.
DB: Do you and anyone else from the team ever get out and
get together to play basketball?
ME: Oh yeah, we play all the time in the spring during
offseason. Me, Marcedes Lewis, Rodney Van, Ryan Graves and Chris
Markey. We all play together.
DB: Do you ball them all up?
ME: Usually me and Marcedes play on the same team so we’re
pretty dominant out there.
DB: Have you ever considered playing for the basketball team
here?
ME: Last year I thought about it but I decided to stick to
football. But maybe this year I’ll go out for the basketball
team.

DB: What’s the best nickname anyone has on the team
this year?
ME: Hahaha. I think my nickname. Everyone calls me
“˜Milk’.
DB: Milk?
ME: They say “milk does the body good.”
DB: Do you drink a lot of milk?
ME: Naw. I mean I’m light-skinned so they call me
“˜Milk,’ but you know the saying is that “milk
does the body good.”
DB: Is that a line you use on the girls?
ME: Yeah, I mean, hahaha, I just let all the girls know
“Milk does the body good.”
DB: I’m pretty sure there are a lot of female UCLA
fans out there wondering about this so I thought I’d take
this chance to ask you for them: Are you single, and if so, what
are you looking for in your ideal girl?
ME: Hahahaha. Well, yeah I am single. I just got out of a
relationship a couple months ago. I’m looking for a girl with
a pretty smile, who’s compatible with me, that likes
football, that likes sports. You know, someone that I can just
relax with and just have fun with.

DB: I know you and Justin London have the same number. Were
you trying to jock him or was it just a coincidence?
ME: I wanted a single digit. I didn’t like 83 last year so
9 was the only thing open so I had to get that.
DB: I know that you played cornerback in high school, but
who’s better on D, you or Justin?
Me: I’d probably say Justin.
DB: If you were covering yourself, do you think the
cornerback version of you from high school would come up with the
ball, or the wide receiver Marcus Everett?
ME: I think with the experience I have now, the wide receiver
would prevail.
DB: Just jump over the defensive back version of
you?
ME: I know so much more now than I did in high school. I mean I
was a good DB, don’t get it wrong.
I think with the experience I have now, though, I would outdo
the DB Marcus.
