USAC trying to find space for groups

At the last Undergraduate Students Association Council meeting,
students and the groups they comprise won a huge victory. By
passing the organizational space allocation guidelines for the
first time in 9 years, USAC is seriously tackling the problem of
having over 800 student groups and nowhere to house them. I know of
leaders who have stored club materials in their car for a full
year.

Our community service commission is student-run and the largest
of its kind in the nation. We are often hampered by the lack of
available resources, and we are not alone. Every department on
campus is in need of more space, but student groups stand apart
because they are the easiest to accommodate. Even a small closet,
like one that hopefully will be converted in the Student Activity
Center, can help dozens of groups store their materials for
tabling, meetings and programs. Lockers and cubbies are the
greatest need we have, and those can go in the smallest of spare
spaces.

USAC is taking this issue seriously, and I urge every campus
department to do the same.
