STUDENT WELFARE COMMISSIONER: Experience gives Jang realistic goals for tangible change

Tamaron Jang brings experience to the Student Welfare Commission
that gives her a fundamental understanding of what health issues on
campus need to be addressed.

Jang has spent two years working in the SWC office, including
serving as the Blood Drive Director for the past year. As director
of the biggest of the SWC’s 10 subcommittees, Jang has
learned that the different parts of the committee need to function
as a whole in order to give student health issues a broad
scope.

Jang also plans to expand the role of the Health, Nutrition and
Fitness and Campus Safety subcommittees so that students’
resources can be used more efficiently.

More importantly, Jang has learned that student welfare is not
limited blood drives and raising AIDS awareness, but includes
broader concerns as well.

Her platform includes a quarterly speaker series that would use
the Career Center to inform students of different post-graduation
opportunities. She has spent time working in student government and
has developed a modest yet fresh goal that is very reachable during
a one-year term.

While her goals for the position are not overwhelming, she has
the wherewithal to make tangible changes for the betterment of the
student body.
