“˜Bruin News 29′ still growing,
developing

“Bruin News 29″ is a young program, and while we are
in our developing stage we are sure to make mistakes (“Bruin
News 29″ to not endorse an EVP candidate, May 10). I agree
that my affiliation with the Students First! slate was a conflict
of interest with our USAC coverage, which is why I was minimally
involved.

Because we lack a list of ground rules, however, there is a good
deal of confusion about what you can and cannot do.

It’s unfortunate that none of the Bruins United candidates
approached us during the taping. Couldn’t they have just let
us know they were concerned?

This situation has been blown completely out of proportion and I
would like to apologize to my staff for hurting their reputation
when they deserve nothing but praise.smoke.

Keep religion out of on-campus dining

The call to bring kosher and halal meal options to our campus is
heralded by an organized, well-meaning group.

They have fought for this cause for several quarters with the
best of intentions. Yet despite having friends actively involved
with this movement, I have to take an opposing position.

We have a diverse student body and the decisions made by our
administrators should reflect that diversity ““ up to a
point.

That point is the clear division between church and state
defined quite eloquently by our noble judicial body. Saying no to
their demands does not equate to an attack on religion.

They remain free to practice their specific dietary habits
without involving public institutions such as UCLA.
