UCLA goalkeeper Eric Reed was named the Premier Development
League Goalkeeper of the Year. The senior owned a stingy 0.62 goals
against average and had a league-leading 12 shutouts in 15 games
played for the Southern California Seahorses.
With Reed in goal for the third year, the Seahorses won their
first regular-
season division league title, going
12-3.
Reed is the second UCLA goalkeeper in a row to win the award,
following Nate Pena.
Reed and the Bruins start their season with an exhibition match
against Loyola Marymount on Aug. 20 on the North Athletic
Field.
WOMEN’S GOLF: Sophomore Tiffany Joh and
incoming freshman Sydnee Michaels were eliminated from competition
at the U.S. Women’s Amateur in North Plains, Ore. on
Thursday. Michaels, who is 18 years old, beat Alison Walshe of
Westford, Mass. in the morning before falling to Duke sophomore
Jennie Lee later in the day.
Joh, the defending U.S. Women’s Amateur Publinks champion,
saw her streak of match-play victories at the Women’s Amateur
end at six. She fell to Jennie Arseneault of Grinnell, Iowa in 19
holes. The two played each other close, with Joh tying up the round
in the 18th with a birdie.
However, Arseneault answered back with a birdie on the next hole
to take the match.
