Letters to the Editor

After Clinton visit, keep a clear head

The letter sent by Gabe Rose and Amritha Subramanian
(“Clinton’s visit sheds light on Prop. 87,” Oct.
20) sounded more like a page from the diary of a teenage girl with
a crush than a strong, well-argued opinion in support of
Proposition 87.

Their excessive adulation of Clinton is harmless, but their even
greater love for bumbling, not-so-eloquent statements of support
for completely unnecessary government bureaucracies is
dangerous.

I don’t know much about Proposition 87, but when the Santa
Cruz Sentinel, the newspaper from my hometown ““ a place that
is very liberal and not friendly to big oil and great friends with
alternative energy sources ““ says in an editorial that
“alternative energy will flourish when it becomes
economically feasible ““ not when the market is messed with
and manipulated by ill-thought-out measures like this one,” I
know Proposition 87 is a bad idea.

Let us know about USC tickets sooner

I was glad to see that the Daily Bruin had finally published
large advertisements last week informing students to pick up their
USC game vouchers at the Central Ticket Office.

But these ads should have been printed Oct. 12, when the
vouchers were first distributed, and the CTO should have been more
organized in alerting students of the distribution, especially for
something in which going as early as possible is crucial.

I went to the CTO the day before the vouchers were given out and
was informed that an e-mail would be sent sometime in the future
with further instructions. The distribution began the next day.

I have spoken to many of my friends, and none of them received
an e-mail from the CTO.

This lack of communication is unacceptable, and this isn’t
even mentioning the failed communication that was involved with the
selling of USC tickets to non-season ticket holders.

I am not a bitter student who got a horrible voucher number. I
am, however, upset at the poor communication the CTO has with
students regarding something in which timing is crucial.

I hope it can amend this problem in time for next year’s
USC game.
