Block extends a warm welcome

UCLA's chancellor asks new and old students to respect and enjoy our diverse environment

Dear Students:

I am delighted to welcome you to a new academic year at UCLA. Together, we have much to look forward to: new learning experiences in and out of the classroom, new opportunities to contribute to the Los Angeles community and new friendships with fellow Bruins.

Our relationships with one another are among our greatest strengths as a campus community. It is important to all of us ““ and to me personally ““ that we each do our part to ensure that UCLA is a welcoming environment for all students, staff and faculty. We are fortunate to be the academic home for people from a wide variety of backgrounds, and because our campus is enhanced by the varied thoughts and experiences we all bring here, we celebrate our diversity. I urge you to nurture your relationships with colleagues and fellow students, embrace their singular perspectives and treat one another with respect.

Remember that we are all members of one Bruin family, and we should interact as brothers and sisters. I look forward to an exciting year and wish you all great success.

Sincerely,

Gene D. Block

Chancellor
